Sometimes, nothing beats a crisp brew—whether it’s while watching the game, chilling with a burger at a cookout, or toasting with friends over a shared pitcher. Fortunately for residents of the Boston Seaport apartments at NEMA Boston, the city is home to some of the country’s most iconic breweries and distilleries. Whether you’re interested in the distillation processes or how production works to craft your favorite spirits, or you just want to sample some of Boston’s finest beers and spirits, here are some of our favorite spots to check out.

Sam Adams has become the quintessential Boston beer and an all-around, crowd-pleasing, traditional beer. But a tour of the brewery shows that their research and development Brewhouse—housed in the Sam Adams Boston Brewery—has concocted a slew of complex and exciting beers via their cutting-edge brewing techniques. Themed tours include the “Sam Signature Experience,” which gives an overview of the R & D program; the “Beyond the Brewhouse,” which dives into the company’s history and brewing process; and the “Bier Keller Experience,” which provides a beer and cheese extravaganza. The taproom is open as well for enjoying an array of their finest ales.

Boston is also home to the Harpoon Brewery’s Harpoon Beer Hall around the corner in the Seaport District. The brewery tours and tastings are offered all week (25 minutes during the week and a full 50-minute brewery tour on weekends), where visitors can walk through the brewery and hear about the history of Harpoon and its brewing and production processes and participate in a 20-minute guided tasting. Also nearby is the Downeast Cider House, which has a rotating menu of hard ciders, vodka soda, and hard lemonades in its East Boston taproom, all produced on-site.

If spirits are more up your alley, a tour of the Bully Boy Distillers can give insight into some of Boston’s most distinctive spirits. They offer what they bill as Boston’s first distillery tour since Prohibition, as well as a spirits sampling in the Tasting Room and an opportunity to enjoy seasonal cocktails.

You can also visit the award-winning GrandTen Distilling for a taste of its signature spirit, Wire Works American Gin, which pays homage to the distillery’s iron-foundry origins. Finally, a tour of the Boston Harbor Distillery can end with a relaxing waterfront cocktail and some of the best views in the city.

Whether learning about distillation processes or the latest brewing techniques or bringing back your favorite spirit to enjoy at home, you’ll be excited to end your local tasting and tour back in the comforts of a home at NEMA Boston.
